Raffaele Bortone

Raffaele Bortone is a writer, director, and producer. His projects are featured on major Italian TV channels like RAI and international networks.

He presents and showcases his works at numerous festivals and forums, including Cartoons on the Bay, I Castelli Animati – International Animation Film Festival, Cartoombria, International Pescara Festival (winning first prize with a film created in collaboration with elementary schools in Velletri, Rome), and Forum Cartoon (held in the Azores, Santiago de Compostela, and Varese), where his projects have been selected by the European Community.

He has participated in international audiovisual markets such as MIP TV and MIPCOM in Cannes (France), MIFA (Annecy), and has been invited by RAI as an expert to evaluate production studios in Barcelona (Spain) and Potsdam (Germany).

He has been commissioned by international organizations such as SPI Intl. of New York to oversee the production process of animated series at DENGE Anymasion Studio in Ankara (Turkey).

For Caricartoon Company (Austria), he worked as a character designer for the TV series Turist and Baydog.

He contributed to the storyboarding of the TV series Lupo Alberto and Spaghetti Family, produced by RAI. Additionally, he was the animation department head for the series Farhat, Prince of the Desert, produced by RAI and MONDO TV.

In 2002, together with Andrea Martini, he founded Animundi Srl, an entrepreneurial project based on an innovative production method called VEA (Vectorial Animation – a polygonal vector animation system). He also contributed to the development of proprietary methodologies such as STEREO-TOON, a system for converting 2D animated series into stereoscopic 3D, and CARTOON-ABLE, which creates animated series accessible to children with sensory impairments.

He has participated in the creation and production of original TV series projects such as: Micromondo (26 episodes x 6’30”), E-Fox, The Detective of the ImpAssible (26 episodes x 6’30”), and since 2006, I Saurini e i viaggi del meteorite nero, which he conceptualized and directed (4 seasons of 26 episodes x 13′).

From 2019 to 2024, he was among the screenwriters of the four seasons of the animated TV series Lampadino e Caramella nel MagiRegno degli Zampa (80 episodes aired on Rai YOYO and available on Rai Play), the world’s first inclusive and accessible animated series for children with sensory impairments, which he also directed.

Since 1994, he has collaborated with Raffaele Bortone on various projects, handling storyboard and layout for Baydog (a 26-episode TV series, 26 minutes each); storyboard for Lupo Alberto (a 52-episode TV series, 6 minutes 30 seconds each); storyboard for Spaghetti Family; TV pilots for Farhat, Prince of the Desert and I Saurini e i viaggi del meteorite nero, managing coordination and production planning.

Ha anche realizzato per Caricartoon Company (Austria), in qualità di character designer, i personaggi di due serie televisiva: “Turist” e “Baydog”.

Ha collaborato alla realizzazione degli storyboard delle serie televisive “Lupo Alberto” e “Spaghetti Family” prodotte dalla RAI. Inoltre, è stato responsabile del settore animazione della serie “Farhat, Principe del Deserto”, prodotto da RAI e MONDO TV.

Nel 2002, insieme ad Andrea Martini, ha fondato Animundi srl, un progetto imprenditoriale basato su un metodo di produzione innovativo denominato PMS (Polygonal Motion System – Sistema di Movimento Poligonale). Da allora sono stati sviluppati e prodotti diversi progetti originali di serie televisive come, per esempio: “Micromondo” (26 episodi x 6′ 30”), “E-Fox, The Detective of the ImpAssible” (26 episodi x 6′ 30”) e, dal 2006, “I Saurini e i viaggi del meteorite nero” (4 serie di 26 episodi x 13′).
